Wandering in Guayaquil
After leaving the high-altitude streets of Quito, we made a four-day stop in Guayaquil, Ecuador’s most populous city. As most people who have traveled to the Galapagos Islands already know, Guayaquil is essentially a mandatory stop before flying into the Galapagos. So we decided to take few days to soak in the local color and lifestyle of the Guayas people. Not much to do in Guayaquil for tourists, which was fine by us since it allowed us to see how local folks go on with their lives. After doing business with local travel agencies, banks and other daily stops, our Spanish has definitely improved. Guayaquil is a crowded place and pickpockets are common, so we didn’t bring our big camera out to play much. But below are some few shots from our mobile phone. Between the hike up Santa Ana Hill, roaming around the Malecon shopping area, relaxing in Iguanas Park, there was still plenty to do and see.
